The XRP Ledger tests first sidechain compatible with Ethereum apps
- The XRP Ledger is testing its first EVM-compatible
- The sidechain is expected to go live next year.
XRP Ledger is testing its Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) sidechain, which aims to bring Ethereum smart contracts to the XRP Ledger, Blockchain core development team RippleX announced, smart contracts using XRP Ledger, a blockchain connected to cross-border payments company Ripple.
Developed by a company called Peersyst, the sidechain is still in this early stage of development and is not available for public testing, according to RippleX. This means that for now it is only available on the XRP Ledger Devnet, a limited experimental network used to test XRP Ledger. The second phase will begin in early 2023 and will include a permission less EVM sidechain that will be open to the public.
While XRP Ledger already supports native smart contracts, the network does not currently support the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), a computing environment commonly used by Ethereum developers to write applications.
