Aeria Canada Studio has partnered with Ready Games to migrate their most popular mobile titles to web3. Games will be redesigned to accommodate NFTs and equipped with Ready Games’ web3 infrastructure before reboot. First up is Rescue Robots: Sniper Survival, which has over 5 million downloads on the Google App Store. Beta testing is expected to begin December 1st, with a full global release planned for January.
This will create a secondary market for trading game content and allow players to pursue different upgrade paths as they progress through Rescue Robots, according to a release from Ready Games.
According to David S.Bennahum, CEO of Ready Games, We are removing the barriers for large gaming companies migrating from web2 gaming economies to web3 gaming economies and reaching those mainstream gamers they may have in the past hadn’t tried a web3 game they’re using now that primarily runs on mobile.
Web2 vs. web3
Several of the largest gaming companies in the US remain suspicious of web3, particularly its use of NFTs in games. Microsoft Games CEO Phil Spencer has said he doesn’t like them, as does Valve’s CEO. Microsoft’s subsidiary Mojang Studios. Banned them from Minecraft servers. Rockstar Games recently prohibited NFTs on Grand Theft Auto servers as well. But according to Bennahum, some aspects of Web3 are “super exciting” for Web2 players.
“First, because an actual on-chain contract backs it, they become the legal owner of the asset they’re buying,” he said. “Second, where game publishers allow it, they can migrate this asset from game to game, equipping it in multiple games, thereby creating even more value for this asset.
Thirdly, you take ownership of your entire gaming history and profile, and you might eventually get paid for your years of commitment, he added. Ready Games itself has only recently been converted. To support its web3 pivot, it sold $3 million worth of tokens in May. Some investors were hashed, Mulana Capital, Mapleblock Capital, Bitkraft Ventures, and Polygon.
